Ecological Stewardship

Beginning August 2022, Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) has awarded annual stewardship contracts to EcoGro to manage the city-owned Dartmoor Greenway. This site used to have several homes, but now it’s just a field and trees. The property is bounded on the southeast by a raised berm with a decommissioned railroad line and a culvert that controls stormwater flow. As the contributing drainage area became more developed, the homes here had periodic flooding. The city purchased the flood-prone homes and demolished them to create a public greenspace. While the majority of the site is regularly turf-mowed by the city, there is an intermittent creek at the base of the rail bed that had been unmanaged and infested with weeds.
